Albert Bartlett Jan 6th 1928 - July 22nd 2006 This tribute is from Lt John Whybrow Bert Bartlett was an outstanding section leader in my platoon in "D" COY, KSLI in Korea in 1951. Well liked and highly respected he did much for morale and was always full of humour and constructive ideas. One of Bert's most spectacular "feats" was his survival of the Chinese onslaught on "Hill 227" on November 18th, 1951, when he was marooned overnight in a bunker with a hand full of "D" Company men, while Chinese soldiery swarmed all around and "friendly" mortar fire rained down on the positions evacuated by the rest of the company. In recent years Bert was very active and ingenious in re-establishing contacts between old KSLI comrades from Korea via the "Internet". He made a lot of us very happy in this way and filled in many gaps in our collective memory. We shall miss him! |
